Why I Built AlephBet
AlephBet was born from a simple need: I wanted to teach my children the Hebrew alphabet, but couldn't find an app that was safe, focused, and actually effective. Every option was either cluttered with ads, tried to teach an entire language at once, or wasn't designed for young children.
So I built one. As a software developer and a parent, I combined my technical skills with what I knew about how young children learn best — through play, repetition, and multisensory engagement. I partnered with a native Hebrew speaker for authentic pronunciation and designed every interaction for small hands and short attention spans.
What started as a project for my own family has grown into the most downloaded Hebrew alphabet app for kids on the App Store, used by over 55,000 families across the world. Every feature — from the guided letter tracing to the adaptive games — was designed with one question in mind: will this actually help a child learn?
Our Approach to Learning
AlephBet uses a multisensory "Listen-See-Trace" method grounded in early literacy research. Studies on haptic letter exploration show that children who trace letters while hearing their sounds develop stronger letter recognition than those who only see or hear them (Bara & Gentaz, 2011). Our approach builds on this evidence:
